Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes 1) coding disease and injury diagnoses; 2) utilizing various automated systems for data entry and retrieval; and 3) reviewing medical records to ensure correct terminology and coding. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Selective Placement Factor:
This position requires the incumbent to possess at the time of application and maintain throughout the duration of employment certification in one of the following from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) with either Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), OR Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) OR Certified Professional Coder- Outpatient (CPC), OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA),OR certified through the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) with a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential.
